Harker LLC, a commercial construction firm headquartered in Charlotte, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the industry.
Check out what Harker’s Owner and President, David Harker shared in the business anniversaries edition of the Charlotte Business Journal.
What is the primary mission of your company?
Our mission is to build exceptional corporate and medical work spaces, keep things simple, and have fun, while creating WOW experiences for our clients, team and families.
What sets your business apart from your competitors?
We believe our core values set us apart. They shape who we are, what do, and how we do it.
These values are embraced throughout our company and help us stay laser focused on our mission.
Describe the defining moment you knew your business would be successful.
When I was a young Project Manager working my first job, I vividly remember looking forward to getting the Business Journal every Friday. I would immediately flip to the back of the journal where all the permits issued by the county are listed. I would sit there studying which General Contractor pulled what and I would catch myself dreaming that one day I might see my name on some of those permits. In 2010, when this company was founded, I got to realize that dream when I saw the company name in print. Immediately, I was struck with a sense of achievement and then a very real understanding of the accountability I now had to every person connected to those permits. Every time I see Harker LLC included in the permit list, it is an acknowledgment of our continued success, and a constant reminder of the commitment I have made to each one of our team members and their families.
What, if anything, has changed since your business was founded?
We have become a lot bigger than me. When the business was founded it started as a one-man shop and the “I” pronoun was frequently used. Today it isn’t about “me” but “we” and it isn’t about “I” but “us”. We are a close-knit team that understands and values the importance of collaboration and teamwork. I am a part of a top-notch team of which I am extremely proud of.
What are your plans for the future?
Harker will continue to stay true to our roots and remain focused on Class A corporate interior construction. This year we formally launched a medical division. While Harker has always built medical interiors, we wanted to strategically allocate resources to the medical market in Charlotte, while providing internal team member growth opportunities. Our next ten years will be defined by organic growth in corporate interiors and focused growth in medical interiors.
